The present volume is the fourth work published by the Yale UniversityPress on the Anthony N. Brady Memorial Foundation, which wasestablished June 15, 1914, by members of the family of the late AnthonyN. Brady to enable the University to declare operative the agreement foran alliance between the New Haven Hospital and the Yale School ofMedicine. In addition to the pledge of endowment for this purpose, thedonors erected for the University on the grounds of the Hospital a clinicaland pathological laboratory, and have since, through additionalgifts to supplement the income of the Memorial Foundation, made possiblethe publication of this and other works by members of the facultyof the School of Medicine at Yale.
Our grateful acknowledgment is due the Staff of the New HavenHospital, especially the members of the Department of Medicine,for their hearty co-operation and for the use of the clinicalnotes.
