The contents of this book are among the lastwritings of Max Heindel, the mystic. They containsome of his deepest thoughts, and are the result ofyears of research and occult investigation. He, too, could say as did Parsifal: “Through error and throughsuffering I came, through many failures and throughcountless woes.” At last he was given the living waterwith which he was able to quench the spiritual thirstof many souls. He also developed to their depthspity and love, and could feel the heart throbs of sufferinghumanity.
Strong souls are usually endowed with great energyand impulse, and through these very forces, theyforge to the front ranks though they often suffermuch. As a result they are filled with compassion forothers. The writer of these lessons sacrificed his physicalbody on the altar of service.
In writing the books and monthly lessons of theFellowship, in his lectures and class work, and in thearduous pioneer work of establishing Headquarterswithin the short span of ten years, Max Heindel accomplishedmore than many who are blessed with perfecthealth could have accomplished in a lifetime. His4first book, his masterpiece, “The Rosicrucian Cosmo-Conception,”was written under the direct guidanceof the Elder Brothers of the Rose Cross. It carries avital message to the world. It satisfies not alone theintellect, but also the heart. His “Freemasonryand Catholicism,” has found its way into many Masoniclibraries. The occultist has received much fromthe book entitled, “The Web of Destiny,” which is amine of mystical knowledge and helpful occult truths. It is also a guide to the investigator, establishingdanger signals for the venturesome ones who wish totake heaven by storm. To the science of astrology hehas given more in a few years than has previouslybeen discovered in centuries. His two valuable works,“Simplified Scientific Astrology” and “The Messageof the Stars,” deal largely with the spiritual and medicalaspects of astrology. The latter gives methodsof diagnosis and healing which form a valuableaddition to the works of other authors, both ancientand modern. These books may be found in the librariesof many doctors of the old school.
In “Gleanings of a Mystic” are found twenty-fourlessons which were formerly sent out to students. Itis the wish of the writer of this introduction that theselessons may carry a message of love and cheer to thesoul-hungry reader and hope to the disconsolate one.
