PREFACE TO NEW REVISED EDITION.

THE sudden and premature deaths in recentyears of numerous prominent people, througharteriosclerosis, impressed me strongly thatthese persons might be still alive if they had beenbetter informed of hygienic living. This gave methe idea of preparing a special section in this newedition, dealing with the prevention of this high mortalityfrom arteriosclerosis and also with the preventionand treatment of high blood-pressure. At thesame time, I am availing myself of this opportunitywith an endeavor to augment, so far as possible, thegeneral purpose of this book, which is to fight old ageby all means that are at our disposal. I am alsoadding a few suggestions on the treatment of oldlooks.

Dr. Arnold Lorand.
