Yours always [** Illegible]
Frances M. Buss
In a life written by a friend for friends theremust of necessity be more of the intimacy ofprivate friendship than in a record written dispassionatelyfor an unknown public. The worldin general knows Frances Mary Buss as a publicworker—capable, energetic, successful. By herfriends she was loved as one of the mostwomanly of women—true, and tender, and loyal. Her work, to which all women of this generationowe so much, must assume prominence in thestory of her life; but what is most desired is toshow her as she was to her friends.
My warmest thanks are here offered to allwho have so freely and so kindly helped me inthis labour of love: first, to Miss Buss’ ownfamily and personal friends, and to old pupils;vito Mrs. Bryant, D.Sc., and the members of thestaff in both schools; and, for many valuableeducational details, to Miss Emily Davies, MissBeale, Mrs. William Grey, Miss Shirreff, MissMary Gurney, Miss Agnes J. Ward, Miss Hughes, and Dr. and Mrs. Fitch.
