TO MY LITTLE FRIENDS, THE CHILDREN IN THE
DRAMATIC CLUB OF THE HYDE PARK CHURCH OF DISCIPLES,
THIS BOOK IS LOVINGLY DEDICATED
The progress in religious education in the last fewyears has been highly encouraging. The subjecthas attained something of a status as a scientificstudy, and significant investigative and experimentalwork has been done. More than that, trainedmen and women in increasing numbers have beendevoting themselves to the endeavor to work outin churches and Sunday schools the practical problemsof organization and method.
It would seem that the time has come to presentto the large body of workers in the fieldof religious education some of the results of thestudies and practice of those who have attaineda measure of educational success. With this endin view the present series of books on "Principlesand Methods of Religious Education" has beenundertaken.
It is intended that these books, while thoroughlyscientific in character, shall be at the same timepopular in presentation, so that they may be availableto Sunday-school and church workers everywhere. The endeavor is definitely made to takeinto account the small school with meager equipment,as well as to hold before the larger schoolsthe ideals of equipment and training.
The series is planned to meet as far as possible allthe problems that arise in the conduct of the educationalwork of the church. While the Sundayschool, therefore, is considered as the basal organizationfor this purpose, the wider educational workof the pastor himself and that of the various otherchurch organizations receive due consideration asparts of a unified system of education in moralsand religion.
